Kintyre Time Bank

Time banking is a free neighbourhood scheme with individuals and organisations participating as members. Each member identifies what they offer to the others - gardening, dog-walking, computer skills, use of rooms, etc. Members can then ask the time bank for the time of members with the skills they need. These exchanges of time are on a voluntary and ad hoc basis, so that members can either accept or reject a request, depending on their schedule.

Volunteering exchanges are recorded by the time bank as credits and debits, making it possible to produce a statement of hours in the same way that a high street bank can produce a conventional bank statement. The ethos is to address practical needs in a cost-effective way by using a community's existing resources.

In Kintyre, the Time Bank is based at the Argyll & Bute Volunteer Centre, Campbeltown.
